No matter what all those other real estate websites tell you, the only true, bona fide, official HUD foreclosure site is http://hudhomestore.com. Not only does the site contain endless pages of stuff you need to know about HUD homes and foreclosures, but it is the repository for foreclosed detailed property info, giving bidding periods, terms, and restrictions – information the other real estate sites don’t fully pick up. Once you have checked hudhomestore.com, then contact an agent to see the property and make an offer.
And that’s just HUD foreclosures. There are lots of sites out there featuring foreclosures, “pre-foreclosures”, and short sales. They generate lots of leads for agents willing to pay to have leads directed to them. If you want to hunt for bargains, stick with a local agent with a good reputation for dealing with distressed properties, who can monitor the legitimate listings for you and advise you on the most beneficial course of action. OR, take your chances with the toll-free numbers.
