If you haven’t been a victim of copper theft, via your air condtioner outdoor compresser unit, or having the catalytic converter sawed off your car, I am sure you know someone who has. It looks like the slow moving state legislature and city council have taken some difinitive action – outlined it this Commercial Appeal Article.
I hope this makes a dent in the problem, but the desperate seem to always find a way to get cash for what they steal. I would rather they at just ask me for $50-100 before they remove my $2000 AC unit, or $1000 converter.
Being the cynic that I am, I would expect an increase of central air outdoor units thefts during to cold months – we are less likely to notice them missing.
