It’s the time of the year when a candy bar won’t last 15 seconds outdoors, and housing prices are as high in Memphis as the temperature. We just aren’t going to give in to this buyer’s market and let a dramatic correction happen- wouldn’t be the way we genteel Southerners would handle it. Denial has always worked much better in matters we don’t like to discuss. I am still seeing prices in Midtown and Downtown above last year’s levels. Even the prices of re-sale condos build in double digit profits. And where are the buyers? They are still trying to figure out what the collapse of the sub-prime lending market means to them. The buyers will soon get their part of the equation figured out, and as we play out our many little Memphis dramas, the market will inevitably have its way.
