Teague, during the first years of restoration on the Old Maury House, painstakingly installed plaster eschueons and plaster details throughout the house. The grand hall has a hand painted frieze which is a design he had copied from another historic restoration called “The Beeches” in Springfield, just north of Nashville, by the French Artist for the architect of the Capitol Building, William Strickland.
The interior features are the most up-to-date efficient fixtures he could find. Installing a new HVAC heat-pump for each of the three floors, tying it to the existing hydronic heating system. “When the outside temperature is 37 Degrees F, the boiler come on anticipating it is going to get colder, then the heat pumps go off at 35 DF, heating the house is incredibly efficient; and, the system reverses itself as it gets warmer outside. (I’ve already done the engineering and connections, so nobody has to fret said Teague. Being an engineer, Teague saw to it that the house was modernized, keeping, or reinstalling as much of the original details as possible.
The incredibly efficient kitchen was designed by an interior designer from Southebys, and there is a production wine cellar in the basement. The house was re-landscaped to reflect period landscaping; and, the property has a solar operated greenhouse out back of the detached two car garage. The driveway is gated to the back of the house.
Teague had said that Historic Taliaferro Hall in Williamson County Tennessee was his last historic home. Followed by “Im too old to do this anymore and I think its time for someone else to have and enjoy the house now…. Laughing, never say never…” Now he has again said its time for someone else to have this elegantly restored home where he and his family lived many years ago. “Its time for me to move on to a more southern and warmer climate, like south Florida, close to a major medical facility as I get older.”
