How’s real estate going?
I get the question every day from a variety of folks – cashiers to CEOs. You know, we real estate people have some “elevator speech” answers to the question, but few people have the time or patience to let a real estate person drill down on what’s really happening in the real estate market.
For those who want to get beyond the polite, rhetorical “How’s real estate going?” question, I want to suggest an excellent article from Daily Kos, What’s wrong with housing today: A visual guide.
“First of all, let’s agree what a “healthy” housing market looks like.
Traditionally it is: Young households take out mortgages and become first-time homebuyers. More established
households, that may or may not have paid off their mortgages, sell these small homes and move into larger,
more expensive homes.
This is not what is happening today.”
I am not going to discuss the article, just strongly advise you to read it if you really are interested in what’s going on in real estate today. Quite interesting. What do you think?
UPDATE: It looks like someone is beginning to take action on this issue. See this Article in Housing Wire.
